About Saint John Chrysostom

John earned the name Chrysostom, golden-mouthed, for preaching that joined careful Scripture interpretation with urgent concern for the poor. As archbishop of Constantinople he challenged luxury, clerical abuse, and imperial misconduct. His candor brought exile, where he died in 407. His homilies and the liturgy bearing his name still shape Christian worship.
