About Saint Irenaeus of Lyon
Irenaeus was born in the Greek-speaking East, probably around 130, and later served as bishop of Lyon in Gaul. Drawing on memories of Polycarp, he defended apostolic faith against Gnostic movements in Against Heresies and presented salvation as humanity’s restoration in Christ. His death as a martyr is traditional but not securely documented.
