About Saint Edmund the Martyr

Edmund was a ninth-century king of East Anglia killed during Viking invasion around 869. Contemporary evidence for his reign is limited, and familiar stories of capture, arrows, and beheading developed in later accounts. His early cult nevertheless remembered a young Christian ruler whose death under foreign conquest came to symbolize courage, justice, and fidelity.
