Catherine of Alexandria is honored as a learned virgin martyr who, according to later tradition, defended Christian faith before philosophers and resisted an emperor before execution. No contemporary evidence confirms the detailed story, and her cult arose centuries later. Even so, generations have revered her as a patron of students, philosophers, teachers, and courageous intellectual witness.
