About Saint Æthelberht of Kent
Æthelberht ruled Kent around 560–616 and married the Christian Frankish princess Bertha. He welcomed Augustine’s mission from Rome in 597, listened openly, and eventually received baptism. His support helped establish the church at Canterbury, while his early written law code protected new Christian institutions without recording forced conversion of his subjects.
