About Saint Aelred of Rievaulx
Aelred, born in northern England in 1110, left the court of the Scottish king to become a Cistercian monk and later abbot of Rievaulx. A gifted spiritual writer and community builder, he taught that holy friendship can school the heart in Christlike love. His works include Spiritual Friendship and The Mirror of Charity.
