About Pope Saint John XXIII
Angelo Roncalli served as a papal diplomat and patriarch of Venice before his election as Pope John XXIII in 1958. Known for warmth, humor, and pastoral simplicity, he convened the Second Vatican Council to renew the Church’s witness in the modern world. His encyclical Pacem in Terris addressed peace, human dignity, rights, and responsibilities.
