Lay Down the Burden

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Jesus, I come to you with open hands. I want to stop carrying alone what was never meant to be mine to carry. Quiet the fear in me, steady my restless heart, and help me to believe that you are good, that you are near, and that you are at work even where I cannot see. Into your hands I place this day, and everything in it. Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.

Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

Trust does not begin with a feeling of confidence; it begins with a decision to come. Jesus invites the weary and overburdened, not the calm and composed. Whatever has been weighing on you, the first act of this novena is simply to bring it to him instead of carrying it one more day alone.

Lord Jesus, I am tired of carrying this alone. I bring you the worry that has settled into my shoulders and my sleep. You promised rest to all who come to you, so here I am. Take this weight from me, even for today, and teach me what it feels like to let you carry it. Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Jesus, I surrender myself to you; take care of everything. I trust that you love me more than I love myself, and that you are working for my good even now. I let go of my need to control the outcome and place my intention, my future, and my whole self into your hands. Whatever you allow, give me the grace to receive it with peace. Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.
