His Mercy Through the Ages

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, you chose St. Anne to be the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the grandmother of our Savior. As I begin this novena, let me honor the faith she handed on. Through her intercession, bless my family across its generations, and hear the longing of my heart. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

His mercy is for generations and generations on those who fear him.

In Mary's own song - words she may first have learned from Anne - she proclaims that God's mercy reaches from generation to generation on those who fear him. St. Anne lived within that mercy and trusted it for her descendants. We can entrust our families to the same enduring kindness of God.

Lord, your mercy reaches from generation to generation upon all who revere you. I entrust my family - those before me and those who will come after - to that unfailing mercy. Through the intercession of St. Anne, let your kindness rest upon my children and grandchildren, and keep us all within the shelter of your love. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Good St. Anne, mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus, you knew the longings of family life and the faithfulness of God. Take my intention into your motherly care and present it to the Lord. Watch over my parents and children, my home and all I love, and obtain for us the grace to hand on faith from one generation to the next. Amen.
