Gentle and Humble of Heart

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with a contrite heart I offer you this prayer. Make my heart humble and patient like your own. Let me live in you and for you, so that whatever I do this day may be done out of love. Receive me into your Heart, and keep me there. Amen.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

When Jesus invites us to learn from him, he points to his Heart, and what he shows us there is gentleness and humility. The God who made the universe describes himself not as fierce or distant, but as lowly. To grow close to this Heart is to slowly take on its gentleness as our own.

Jesus, gentle and humble of Heart, make my heart like yours. Where I am harsh, teach me your gentleness; where I am proud, teach me your lowliness. Lift the heavy yoke I have made for myself and lay your own light yoke upon me, so that close to you I may finally find rest for my soul. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
