Peace Amid the Storm

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God of compassion, you have drawn generations of pilgrims to prayer at Vailankanni. As I begin this novena, receive the intention I carry and lead me to Jesus, the source of every grace. Through Mary's intercession, bring strength to people who are ill, wisdom to those who care for them, and peace to every burdened heart. Teach me to welcome others with tenderness and to seek healing with faith, patience, and prudence. Amen.

He awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, 'Peace! Be still!' The wind ceased and there was a great calm. He said to them, 'Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?'

Another Vailankanni oral tradition recalls Portuguese sailors who believed Mary protected them during a violent storm and who built a church in gratitude. We need not treat the account as verified history to hear its invitation. In danger, Christians call upon Jesus, practice wise preparation, aid those at risk, and give thanks for rescuers and safe passage.

Christ, Lord of wind and sea, remain with all who face storms, floods, displacement, or perilous journeys. At your Mother's intercession, steady frightened hearts and protect those who rescue strangers. Give communities foresight to prepare, courage to respond, and justice in rebuilding. Lead me from panic toward trust that becomes careful, generous action. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Our Lady of Good Health, Mother at Vailankanni, carry my intention to Jesus Christ, who alone is Lord and healer. Stay near patients, families, clinicians, caregivers, and everyone waiting without certainty. Help me receive appropriate care, offer practical compassion, and accept each day without losing hope. May every grace lead me toward your Son, every trial deepen charity, and every encounter honor the dignity of the person before me. Amen.
