Along the Way of the Cross
Day 5 of 9 · 5 min
- 01
Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
- 02
Opening
Mother of Sorrows, you remained close to Jesus when love cost you everything. As I walk with you through these days, teach me not to flee from the suffering of Christ or the pain of those beside me. Hold my grief near your pierced heart, and lead me through every sorrow to the faithful love of your Son. Amen.
- 03
Your Intention
Let us pause in silence, and bring to mind the intention you are praying for.
In the app, your own saved intention rests here during the silence. The narration stays the same for everyone.
- 04
Scripture
Luke 23:27-28A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him. But Jesus, turning to them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, don't weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.
- 05
Reflection
The women of Jerusalem follow Jesus with tears, and Christian devotion sees Mary walking the same road with a mother's grief. Jesus turns sorrow outward, asking that compassion become conversion and care for others. Tears offered with love can soften the heart rather than close it before God.
- 06
Prayer
Our Lady of Sorrows, walk beside me when another person's pain leaves me helpless. Keep me from empty pity or despair. Let my grief lead to repentance, prayer, and practical mercy for those carrying a cross today. Give me courage to act when mercy asks something costly. Amen.
- 07
Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
- 08
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
- 09
Glory Be
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
- 10
Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
- 11
Closing
Our Lady of Sorrows, you know the weight of a heart that loves and grieves. Receive the intention I carry and place it beside the Cross of your Son. Comfort all who mourn, strengthen all who suffer, and obtain for me a compassion that stays present. When sorrow darkens my way, keep me faithful until Christ turns mourning into joy. Amen.
- 12
Sign of the Cross
