In the Hand of God

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of your servants the forgiveness of all their sins. Through our prayers may they obtain the mercy they have always desired. By the merits of your Son's death and resurrection, lead them out of every shadow and into your perfect light. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will touch them.

Whatever purification still awaits the souls we love, they are not lost or abandoned; they are in the hand of God. The fire of Purgatory is the fire of his love, finishing the work of making them ready to see him. We grieve, but not as those without hope, for the ones we entrust to God are held more securely than we could ever hold them.

Lord, the souls of those I love are in your hand, and no torment can touch them there. Comfort me with that truth when grief presses in. Finish in them the work of your love, and make them ready to behold your face. Until then, keep them safe in the shelter of your mercy. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
