Be Merciful as the Father

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. For the sake of his sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Most merciful Jesus, I trust in you.

Therefore be merciful, even as your Father is also merciful.

We are not asked to be merely fair, but to be merciful as God himself is merciful. That is an impossible standard by our own strength, and that is the point: it can only be done by grace. The more we receive his mercy, the more naturally it begins to look like ours.

Father, you set before me a mercy as wide as your own, and I cannot reach it alone. Pour your compassion into me until it overflows toward others. Where I am quick to judge, make me slow; where I am eager to condemn, make me eager to forgive. Let your mercy become my way of living. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
