    First Reading

    1 Kings 19:9, 11-13

    3 kings 19

9He came to a cave there, and camped there; and behold, the LORD's word came to him, and he said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

11He said, "Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD." Behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake.

12After the earthquake a fire passed; but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire, there was a still small voice.

13When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. Behold, a voice came to him, and said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

    Responsorial Psalm

    Psalms 85:9, 10, 11-12, 13-14
    1:03
    psalms 85

9I will hear what God, the LORD, will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, his saints; but let them not turn again to folly.

10Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.

11Mercy and truth meet together. Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

12Truth springs out of the earth. Righteousness has looked down from heaven.

13Yes, the LORD will give that which is good. Our land will yield its increase.

14Righteousness goes before him, and prepares the way for his steps.

    Second Reading

    Romans 9:1-5
    1:58
    romans 9

1I tell the truth in Christ. I am not lying, my conscience testifying with me in the Holy Spirit

2that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart.

3For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brothers' sake, my relatives according to the flesh

    4who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service, and the promises;

5of whom are the fathers, and from whom is Christ as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God, blessed forever. Amen.

    Gospel

    Matthew 14:22-33
    2:54
    matthew 14

22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

23After he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.

24But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

25In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.

26When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It's a ghost!" and they cried out for fear.

27But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Cheer up! It is I! Don't be afraid."

28Peter answered him and said, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters."

29He said, "Come!" Peter stepped down from the boat and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.

30But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!"

31Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?"

32When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.

33Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, "You are truly the Son of God!"
