⁹He came to a cave there, and camped there; and behold, the LORD's word came to him, and he said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

¹¹He said, "Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD." Behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake.

¹²After the earthquake a fire passed; but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire, there was a still small voice.

¹³When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle, went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. Behold, a voice came to him, and said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

⁹I will hear what God, the LORD, will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, his saints; but let them not turn again to folly.

¹⁰Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.

¹¹Mercy and truth meet together. Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

¹²Truth springs out of the earth. Righteousness has looked down from heaven.

¹³Yes, the LORD will give that which is good. Our land will yield its increase.

¹⁴Righteousness goes before him, and prepares the way for his steps.

¹I tell the truth in Christ. I am not lying, my conscience testifying with me in the Holy Spirit

²that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart.

³For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brothers' sake, my relatives according to the flesh

⁴who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service, and the promises;

⁵of whom are the fathers, and from whom is Christ as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God, blessed forever. Amen.

²²Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

²³After he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.

²⁴But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

²⁵In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.

²⁶When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It's a ghost!" and they cried out for fear.

²⁷But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Cheer up! It is I! Don't be afraid."

²⁸Peter answered him and said, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters."

²⁹He said, "Come!" Peter stepped down from the boat and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.

³⁰But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!"

³¹Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?"

³²When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.

³³Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, "You are truly the Son of God!"
