About Saint Matthias the Apostle
Matthias was chosen by lot to join the Eleven after Judas’s death, as recorded in Acts. Peter required that the candidate had accompanied Jesus’s ministry from John’s baptism through the Ascension, making Matthias a witness to the Resurrection. Later accounts of his missionary travels and death vary and remain uncertain.
