About Saint Léger of Autun

Léger, also called Leodegar, became bishop of Autun in seventh-century Frankish Gaul and worked to reform clergy and defend his city. He became entangled in violent struggles among royal factions and was blinded, mutilated, and eventually killed. Later Christians honored him as a martyr who endured political vengeance without abandoning his pastoral office.
