About Saint Jerome

Jerome was a brilliant, difficult, and tireless fourth-century scholar who mastered biblical languages and produced the Latin translation later called the Vulgate. After years in Rome and the eastern Mediterranean, he settled near Bethlehem, directing monastic communities and studying Scripture. His letters reveal both sharp controversy and profound devotion to God’s word.
