About Saint Francis of Assisi
Francis, the son of a wealthy Assisi merchant, embraced poverty after a long conversion and heard Christ call him to rebuild the Church. He gathered the Friars Minor, served lepers, sought peace across religious boundaries, and praised God through creation. Near death he bore the stigmata and left a movement centered on the Gospel lived simply.

Most High God, through Saint Francis’s intercession, make us instruments of your peace. Free us from possessiveness, teach us to serve people others avoid, and let our care for creation arise from grateful love of you. Amen.
