About Pope Saint Sylvester I
Sylvester was bishop of Rome from 314 to 335, spanning Constantine’s rise and the Council of Nicaea. He did not attend the council but sent representatives, and major Roman basilicas developed during his pontificate. Many colorful stories linking him personally with Constantine arose later; his real ministry guided a Church adjusting suddenly from persecution to imperial favor.
