About Pope Saint Martin I

Martin became pope in 649 and convened the Lateran Council, which rejected Monothelitism and affirmed Christ’s human and divine wills. Emperor Constans II ordered his arrest; Martin was taken to Constantinople, publicly humiliated, imprisoned, and exiled to Cherson in Crimea. Weakened by hardship and neglect, he died there in 655.
