Faith Handed Down

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, you chose St. Anne to be the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the grandmother of our Savior. As I begin this novena, let me honor the faith she handed on. Through her intercession, bless my family across its generations, and hear the longing of my heart. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

having been reminded of the sincere faith that is in you, which lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, in you also.

Paul speaks of a faith that lived first in Timothy's grandmother, then his mother, then in him. This is St. Anne's special gift: she handed faith to Mary, who handed it to Jesus' first followers. The most precious thing one generation can give the next is a living faith in God.

Lord, faith is handed down like a flame from one generation to the next, as Anne handed it to Mary. Make me a faithful link in that chain for those who come after me. Through the intercession of St. Anne, help me to pass on not just words but a living trust in you, so that my faith may take root in the hearts of my family. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Good St. Anne, mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus, you knew the longings of family life and the faithfulness of God. Take my intention into your motherly care and present it to the Lord. Watch over my parents and children, my home and all I love, and obtain for us the grace to hand on faith from one generation to the next. Amen.
