Under His Shadow

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O most beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, you clothe your children in your holy scapular as a sign of your protection. As I begin these days of prayer, wrap me in your care and bind me to your Son. Help me to wear your habit not only on my shoulders but in my heart, living as one who belongs to you. Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Amen.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.'

Our Lady's scapular is a sign of her protection, and through her, of God's. To dwell under her mantle is to dwell in the shadow of the Almighty, sheltered from what would harm the soul. The protection is real, but it is the protection of a Mother leading us to safety in her Son.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, shelter me beneath your mantle and within the shadow of the Almighty. Guard me from the dangers I can see and those I cannot. Be my refuge and my fortress, and lead me always deeper into the safety of your Son. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, you clothe and protect all who consecrate themselves to you. Take the intention I have carried through these days and present it to your Son. Keep me faithful to the end, wrapped in your protection in life and in death, and bring me at last to the mountain of heaven where you reign. Help also the holy souls who await that day. Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us. Amen.
