First Reading
2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-164 kings 48One day Elisha went to Shunem, where there was a prominent woman; and she persuaded him to eat bread. So it was, that as often as he passed by, he turned in there to eat bread.
9She said to her husband, "See now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God who passes by us continually.
10Please, let's make a little room on the roof. Let's set a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp stand for him there. When he comes to us, he can stay there."
11One day he came there, and he went to the room and lay there.
14He said, "What then is to be done for her?" Gehazi answered, "Most certainly she has no son, and her husband is old."
15He said, "Call her." When he had called her, she stood in the door.
16He said, "At this season next year, you will embrace a son." She said, "No, my lord, you man of God, do not lie to your servant."

Responsorial Psalm
Psalms 89:2-3, 16-17, 18-19psalms 892I will sing of the loving kindness of the LORD forever. With my mouth, I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.
3I indeed declare, "Love stands firm forever. You established the heavens. Your faithfulness is in them."
16Blessed are the people who learn to acclaim you. They walk in the light of your presence, LORD.
17In your name they rejoice all day. In your righteousness, they are exalted.
18For you are the glory of their strength. In your favor, our horn will be exalted.
19For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.

Gospel
Matthew 10:37-42matthew 1037He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn't worthy of me.
38He who doesn't take his cross and follow after me isn't worthy of me.
39He who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.
40"He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.
41He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward. He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward.
42Whoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, most certainly I tell you, he will in no way lose his reward."

Second Reading
Romans 6:3-4, 8-11romans 63Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
4We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.
8But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him,
9knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over him!
10For the death that he died, he died to sin one time; but the life that he lives, he lives to God.
11Thus consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
